Assertive Conflict Resolution

Tonight, we were visited by Dr. Theron Parsons IV for Assertive Conflict Resolution. His main message when it comes to managing conflicts, you need to be assertive. This means you’re not resorting to aggressive behavior, such as threats and demands, but you’re also not showing weakness. You assert your desires by making requests. An example of this would be by saying, “Would you please pick this up?” You’re not being aggressive, but you’re making clear your desires. Aggression and hostility isn’t necessary. We all desire to maintain control, and sometimes, we resort to aggression. But being assertive shows more control not only in the situation, but in yourself.
